So we get to drive the Range Rover Vogue again over the long weekend in Dubai and this time it’s the 2017 Vogue with the SVO Design Pack. Our love affair with the Vogue has been since we launched this site and it all started from 2012 and has been going on strong ever since.
2017 RANGE ROVER VOGUE SE WITH SVO DESIGN PACK
The present generation Range Rover Vogue SE was launched in 2013 and was miles ahead of its predecessor, which we thought at first that it couldn’t be beat. At least not a white wash. But the all-aluminum construction and contemporary interior design while retaining the trademark silhouette outer shell resulted in an SUV that had road presence and dynamically superior in every way. Their air suspension should be a standard fitment to all the other premium large sized SUV’s out there in the market, it’s that good. 4 years later we get to drive the Vogue SE again and this time sporting a new SVO Design Pack which includes new front bumper with enlarged intakes, individual design radiator grills, redesigned side vents, unique side skirts and a new rear bumper with integrated exhaust finishers. Our example was a black and white feast, anything chrome or shiny metallic has been blacked out including the massive 22 inch rims.
Has much changed since the time of its launch? Mechanically as far as the drivetrain is concerned, no; since we believe that it’s still far superior to what’s out there but in terms of electronics, there are a few bits and prices that have been upgraded. The 10.2-inch dual view touchscreen screen is wider and bigger, and the rear camera is of a much higher resolution and works great at night as well. The full digital dashboard which was the first of its kind from Range Rover displays the tachometer in a newly updated skin and you can change the themes as well to your likings. We also get heads up display which was not present at the launch.
Range Rover’s Vogue always seems to defy its age for some reason, even if you look at its previous generations and the present one, they still look proper and in line with the designs of today. Yes, the new Velar is upping the design theme which we assume would roll over to the Vogues as well but it’s amazing how designers can create art which stays in fashion or trend for years if you catch my drift. But the Vogue is much more than a pretty face. It’s an ensemble of quiet luxury and finesse that is hard to match, let alone surpass. In terms of ride comfort, the only SUV that could come close to the Vogue would be Lexus’s LX570.
Apart from its pretty face, the Vogue is an extremely capable off-roader. It’s all terrain system is able to somehow understand the terrain and work its magic providing power to the wheels that need them and locking and unlocking differentials. All you need to do is steer and enjoy your scenery. I’m sure that off-roading the Vogue would only be limited to the occasional trip to the beach or jumping onto a pavement here in Dubai. But that’s ok, you know you have the means to venture into the unknown even if you don’t intend to. It’s like owning a 1001Hp Veyron but you don’t use more than 50% of its power, knowing that it’s there is a boost to one’s ego, it’s like a pat on your back saying that life’s good!!
Our black and white tester came with red interiors which was limited to the seats, the dashboard was black which was good. As always the driving position of the Range Rover is a class act of its own. The view you get from the driver’s seat is much like that of a captain’s seat of a yacht. And also the fact that there is less clutter of buttons. The terrain management system is activated with the twist of your wrist, and that’s about it. Select the terrain and off you go, the Vogue SE does the rest. It would be better if you could deflate the tires before you head onto deeper sand.
The Range Rover Vogue has been our benchmark when it comes to luxury SUV. It was awe-inspiring back in 2013 and it’s till awe-inspiring even now in 2017. The SVO design pack adds a bit of oomph and sportiness to this regal mechanical brilliance.
