When it comes to a family hauler with the ability to eat up highway miles in comfort with the family, there is a family of SUV’s that immediately comes to our mind and it starts with the Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ. With connectivity that would make sure that all the cell phones are charged up and a cool box to keep everyone cool and hydrated and the ability to sit 7 adults, yalla its time for road trips every weekend.
2017 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ Review in Dubai
Chevrolet has understood the need for connectivity while travelling. We have succumbed ourselves into a social media frenzy like never before and the need to be always online drains out the batteries of our cell phones by mid-day. There are enough individual USB ports for all passengers in the Tahoe, in fact the Tahoe, Denali and the Escalade boasts the most number of USB’s on any SUV’s in the planet. Couple that with a center overhand monitor that can play movies and keep the kids at bay is a plus for the driver. The famous statement from Bart “Are we there yet?” constantly repeating from the back can be totally avoided.
The LTZ is Tahoe’s tricked out version, you get leather ventilated seats, a sun roof and 20 inch chrome rims and a side step over a regular Tahoe. It comes with the standard 5.3L Ecotec3 which is good for 355hp and features cylinder deactivation thus being easy on the fuel as well and gives a combined mileage of 13.3L/100kms. Easier based on other V8’s of similar sized SUV’s in its range like the Land Cruiser and the Patrol, both gave us a combined mileage of 16.4kms/100l and 16.8kms/100L respectively.
So is the Tahoe easy to drive on the road? Yes it is, and easy to park as well. Easy is relative, its size is big but the proportions don’t feel humongous once you are seated inside. Mall parking’s were easy even when there was just enough space for us to squeeze in between cars. This was not the fault of the Tahoe but rather the fault of the people who parked the cars at odd angles. Once reverse gear is engaged you get rear cross traffic alerts which is helpful as well. The steering is light and that kinda suits my taste, I always felt that a lighter steering wheel really adds to the comfort factor of an SUV, many people would prefer a heavier steering wheel for a large vehicle but we did not experience a sudden body roll when the steering moves at high speed.
This is where the Tahoe really capitalizes on everyday family needs. The rear trunk is massive, once you fold down the 3rd row seats you have enough space to carry luggage for the entire family and have room to spare. There are 8 USB ports, which we believe are f one each for the 7 passengers and one to play movies on.
None of the Japanese SUV’s or the British ones carries as much connectivity nor do they have both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrated in the infotainment system. This is where we can see that the Tahoe and its extended family really understood the need of their customers.
Yes the infotainment system is basic yet easy to use but whether you are an Android or an OS user you can simply mirror your cell phone onto the screen and be totally hands-free. Being able to use google maps is what excites us the most in this integration.
At AED 260,000 the Tahoe LTZ is a lot of SUV for the money. It’s around AED 30,000 cheaper than its elder brother, the Yukon Denali and AED 70,000 cheaper than the Escalade. The major difference would be the engine in this case and trust us that the 5.3L was no slouch compared to the latter’s 6.2L V8. With lane keep assist the Tahoe packs safety guides that are just not available in its price bracket, especially the ease of use, you just press a button and it works. It all comes down to what you need, the more sugar you add the sweeter it gets and if you are looking for a large SUV to traverse long distances and take the family out around the city while enjoying every facility one expects from an SUV, the Tahoe has them all.
