2015 MECOTY ANNOUNCES NOMINEES
All eyes are set on the second edition of the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) Award, the most prestigious award of the regional automotive industry. International car manufacturers have expressed their delight on their cars being nominated and are working closely with the jury members to ensure that their cars are test driven before the final results are announced on October 29, 2015.
“We are excited to see four of our most iconic products, the all-new Ford Mustang and F-150 as well as the new Ford Expedition and Focus ST, shortlisted for the 2015 MECOTY awards this year. Each of these models have successfully carved out a leadership slot in their categories, not only in our region here, but also globally,” said Kalyana Sivagnanam, Ford Motor Company’s Marketing, Sales & Service Director for Middle East & North Africa. “We are also pleased to see an entirely new truck category implemented for this year, and are eager to see the final results. We are confident that each of these models will make their mark on the jury panel members, just as they did with millions of customers around the world.”
The nominees will undergo a stringent selection process by a select panel of judges, who are handpicked to represent their respective countries, including; UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar & Saudi Arabia. This makes MECOTY the only independent recognition for car manufacturers which acknowledges the fact that the cars they are selling in the region are in line with consumer needs.
“At Chevrolet, we are proud that the 2015 Tahoe full-size SUV – which offers more functionality, greater refinement, new safety features, and an increased range of advanced technologies – has been shortlisted in the Large SUV category of the 2015 MECOTY Awards,” said Ahmed Soudodi, Regional Brand Manager for Chevrolet. “MECOTY is one of the most important awards in the Middle East’s automotive industry. Such recognition is a testament to the Tahoe’s powerful legacy as Chevrolet’s best-selling model in the region. We look forward to the awards ceremony and hope to take home the winning prize!”
The gala awards will see attendance of high-profile executives from all international car manufacturer’s regional offices, their respective distributors and specialized automotive media as well. The event will commence with a black-tie gala dinner followed by a comprehensive display of the nominated cars, open for public viewing.
“The ATS Coupe has captured a lot of hearts since its launch late last year, and we’re not surprised that it’s captured the minds of MECOTY’s jury members. We’ll be looking forward to the Jury’s decision to cap a great first year for the ATS Coupe.” Nadim Ghrayeb, Brand Manager, Cadillac Middle East.
Once the Jury casts its final votes in September, the organizers will open the online public voting for a month before the awards night, which will allow them to vote for their favourite new car and make it win the coveted Consumer COTY award.
“Audi Middle East are once again excited to be part of the MECOTY annual awards and we look forward to presenting the judging panel and the public our new Audi TT, the Audi S3 and the A6 for their views and opinion. We have been fortunate to have had great success in the past at these awards and we very much hope that with these new models, we will continue to thrill and satisfy from both a performance and quality perspective. Audi is committed to offering our customers innovative and emotional cars which are highly efficient, sophisticated and reliable as well as a premium customer service experience. We hope we will once again prove this at the MECOTY 2015 awards” – Trevor Hill, Managing Director of Audi Middle East.
With refined categories, new jury members, an updated scoring infrastructure, a dedicated production house to film and share original automotive content, an upgraded public voting system and much more, MECOTY 2015 will continue to raise the benchmark of excellence that it has set to recognize global excellence in cars—its development, design and use.
According to Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative of Middle East & North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, “It is a great pleasure to have two Lexus vehicles nominated for the 2015 MECOTY awards with the Lexus RC 350 in the Compact Executive Coupe category and the Lexus NX 200t in the Compact Premium SUV category. I would like to take this opportunity to also thank our customers for their support and loyalty to our brand which has encouraged us to make even better cars for them. The awards have become a recognised benchmark for finding the best cars in the region and we look forward to the final results and a successful year for Lexus at the awards.”
