When one of UAE’s first female Aircraft Engineer gets her drivers license, an ordinary car just wouldn’t cut it. She would need to opt for a Bavarian chisel to carve her way through the traffic. We talk to Kavita Chauhan and her BMW Z4
Arnab : Kavita, you have chosen the BMW Z4 and this is your first car in the UAE. What made you choose this over the others? What were the other choices?
Kavita : As soon as I got my drivers license I just wanted to have my own sports car. The Audi TT, BMW Z4 and the Mercedes SLK were my choices. I was really confused till the time I laid my eyes on the Z4 and at first look I just knew that this was the car I wanted to have. I just love its design, the interior is elegant and luxurious. The exterior is masculine yet chic and whenever I look at it I feel like whoever designed it took great care of even minutest details. Oh and that’s not all, it is a hard top convertible which just takes 15 secs or less to go down.
When I drove the car I just loved it, perfect grip on the road and a 7 sec sprint to 100 from stand-still
Arnab : How does it feel to drive this car in Dubai? Is it much different than driving in India?
Kavita : Driving in India is fun! Actually, you will have to be more alert as anyone or anything can come from any side at anytime! Be it auto rickshaws, cars, pedestrians; nobody follows the rules there. Getting a driving license is the toughest part here I feel, after that driving is relatively easy. Just have to be a little careful of some crazy drivers on the road
Arnab : Does this car suit your personality?
Kavita : Yes. I feel that we both compliment each other. The Z4 is a fine piece of machinery. Its beauty and brains which go hand in hand, much like me
Arnab : I ask this to all the guys but will throw the same to you as well, are you thinking of any modifications or would you leave it stock?
Kavita : Well I have not thought much of it, maybe I would change the rims. I am still researching on some ideas on the BMW forums. Time would tell and I will let you know once its done. It will be something quite different, trust me
Arnab : What about pushing the car to its limits, the Z4 is a true road hugger, have you tried it out to that extent? Were you able to make the tires cry?
Kavita : Sometimes….When I am late for work. At least I can give that excuse to the officer if I were to have been stopped by them. Lets just say that we both go out and play once in a while. One needs to do some sort of workout on a regular basis.
Arnab : Any reactions from admirers?
Kavita : Hahaha, yes. The first day I had to take it to work a guy passing by said wow. And at the traffic signals I see guys looks at me, I just put on my Ray Bans and crank up the volume
Arnab : So is it mostly roof up or down?
Kavita : The weather is awful right now and I don’t fancy getting the dust on the tan interior. But yes, in the winter the roof would be down, the shades up and Kavita would be in her element.
